Friday September 5th 2008 Friday I went to Nahalat Binyamin Market. I took bus 66 from Arlozorov (near my home). I forgot that it does not go all the way to the market but turns at the end of Ben Yehuda toward the sea. So I got off there and walked to the Nahala through the beautiful quiet neighborhood called Kerem Hateimanim (meaning the vineyard of the Yemenites). I wanted to look in the Nahala Craft Fair market for a necklace for my daughter. Her birthday is this week. On my way trough the Kerem I got great photo opportunities that I did not miss.... ...and I discovered this beautiful cafe, called Hamitbahon (the kitchenette), located on an alley that leads to Hacarmel Market. It is a lovely place to have a meal after or before you enter the hussle and bussle of the market and it reminded me very much of a cafe I liked in the Porte de Clignancourt market in Paris. So I plan to go there for breakfast this coming Friday with my husband and friends I will let you know how it was :-) |

for breakfast as planned after a morning on the beach. September the sea is beautiful. I found a nice beach just before Jerusalem beach that has clean wardrobes so you can easily change after showering and go on with enjoying the city life ...
disappointing. We set outside after the cat finally agreed to get off the table and had breakfast.
homemade pickles and I liked the shakshouka (that spicy thing with tomatoes and eggs) very much but my friend Ana who is an expert in Shakshoukas :-) did not like it at all,so I don't know if to recommend it or not On our way home we checked a shop recommended by Ana called Salon Berlin and it was an experience. I even bought there a Berlin Tshirt for my dear husband |

This Friday I was too busy cleaning the house and cooking for the lunch I am holding for my family tomorrow but still I can tell about the new restaurant we have been to last week. It is called Segev Express and it is very trendy at the moment. Segev is a famous chef that has a TV cooking show and an exclusive restaurant called Segev in Herzelia. This is supposed to be the more casual version of his cooking art...and is located in a northern neighbourhood of Tel Aviv I was impressed by the design of the restaurant that looks very festive and spacious with white trees and benches. The food is mostly Italian style and nice. I liked the deserts and the fucaccia mostly. The prices are reasonable and the service is good. It is a beautiful place to celebrate a family event. |

beach and I can say that it is a good choice since it has great and clean facilities including clean (relatively) showers and toilets with toilet paper !! The sea is beautiful in October clear and transparent and quiet almost like a pool. The only downside on Metzitzim beach is that you have to walk a whole lot in the water until you get to the deep water where you can really swim. On the beach there is the Metzitzim Cafe bar and I had there a great breakfast. Quite a lot of food, one breakfast can easily be split between two hungry guys... |
Friday, October 17, 2008 Today I spent the morning with my daughter. We went to check the shops on Dizengoff if we find any interesting items for our autumn wardrobe. Afterwards we looked for a place to sit for a coffee or breakfast. The funny thing is that although Tel Aviv has cafés in abundance, on Friday morning it is hard to find one that is nice and not packed. After rounds and rounds we chose Cafe Lin and it was very pleasant The café is located on a corner of Ben Yehuda which is quieter than Dizengoff and also has some breeze from the sea that is only a street away. We had a nice breakfast. They serve it with mouth watering rolls (only 3 though ... they care for my diet :-) |
Friday 12, December I had a friend visiting from Amsterdam. He enjoyed his visit and the warm weather comparing to freezing temperatures he gets at this period in Holland. Friday we met in the Flea Market as he was staying at the Old Jaffa Hostel and I planned to sit for a coffee somewhere near, like at Pua. But the market was very busy and there was no chance for a table at Pua so we went to a more secluded area and sat at Noa which is a different atmosphere and not in the sun but nice though. After having coffee and a bite we went to see the Old Jaffa restored part with its galleries and little alleys and then took the stairs down to the Old Port that is still being under renovation but still there are boats and fish and that certain smell of sea... And now for some accommodation tips I got from my visitor. He stayed with us but also in hostels in Jaffa and Jerusalem. In Jaffa he spent 2 nights in the Old Jaffa Hostel and was pleased with the location and the warm welcoming of the stuff. He took a single room and it was small but nice and especially he enjoyed the roof where it is nice to have coffee and enjoy the view of Jaffa and the Flea Market. The only con is that it is noisy, especially in the mornings if you plan to sleep late forget about it. In Jerusalem he tried first the Austrian Hospice that I recommended (I have not been there but I read about it being a nice place) but he preferred to stay in the Jerusalem Hostel on Jaffa road in the new city and there it was great. It is owned by the same owners of Old Jaffa Hostel and it is quite similar and located right in the centre of Jerusalem. It is very convenient for walking to the old and new Jerusalem.
