The American Colony a hidden gem

Today I was a tourist in my own city. I went to discover the
little streets of a southern neighbourhood on the border
between Jaffa and Tel Aviv. The area is called the
American Colony for historic reasons and is just east to
Jaffa. I just took a left from the Jaffa Clock square onto
Eilat street which is a continuation of Raziel street. Eilat
street is a shabby commercial street. I walked on its right
side until  I got  to a little street named Auerbach. Here as
if the time stopped I could see the old houses built by the
Americans more than 150 years ago and also by  the
German templars later. Some of the houses are in process
of restoration and some are already finished.

We visited the beautiful  Immanuel church that was built in
the neo-ghotic style by German settlers and saw the
    unique and beautiful vitrages

Back on Eilat street we went to the studio of a hidden artist
that my friend discovered. Uri Eliaz that created a huge
amount of sculptures and paintings and we were
overwhelmed by the quantity and beauty of his work.

We ended our tour at Guetta restaurant on Jerushalaim
street where the food was not great but the tomato bean
soup and the tehina were nice ..

What is New and Better ? Summer 2011

Bicycle rent project has been launched and there are
stands all over the city website in Hebrew  for details in
    English try mail

Another beautiful project recently opened is the Tahana in
between  Neve Tzedek and the Sea. An old train station
was transformed into a tourist oriented compound with
coffee shops, restaurants, and shops and a Friday morning
    organic farmer market.

Farmers Market a new indoor Market was opened in Tel
Aviv Port. The Covered Market is open daily and the open
air market is open Friday mornings.
