Eilat & Negev desert

Eilat is the Israeli farout resort or refuge. It is far away it has a different
climate and sea. So it feels almost like another country. You can fly to Eilat
and it takes like 40 minutes or drive like we did. There are several ways to
go down south. We chose the one through Mitzpe Ramon. Definitely
recommended it is more scenic and less boring. The drive takes about 4
    and a half hour.

If you drive to Eilat I recommend to stop at some points in the Negev
Desert. Mitzpe Ramon is a nature wonder with the amazing crater that is
one of worlds wonders. Also there are other beautiful little desert villages
such as the kibutz Neot Smadar where you can see some Gaudi style
houses and have a healthy coffee or tea break at their lovely inn.

What to do in Eilat ?
The dolphin reef beach is a great place to be and is a great experience
especially the children Every time I am in Eilat I spend there most of the
days. You can enjoy good beach facilities and also a spa. You can watch
how the dolphins are fed and even swim with the dolphins. While there
don't miss the great lunch in the beach restaurant. I had my best calamari
    ever there.

Dekel Beach just before the Dolphin reef beach and after the port this is a
wonderful beach with a resto bar cafe and a relaxed lay back atmosphere.
However I recommend to bring your plastic shoes because you have to
step on stones to enter the water.

The underwater observatory a major attraction for fish and sea fauna fans
    and all the family

IMAX Eilat cinema and The amazing world which is at the King Salomon
Hotel and is fun for little children with bumping chairs and other effects.

Bird Watching - Eilat is on of the best locations for Watching the Bird
Migration especially in Spring. The bird watching center in  Kibbutz Lotan
has an interesting website on the subject.

The Timna Park is a great experience and definitely worth a visit especially
    at sunset.

Eilat Observatory  on the promenade near the bridge - check the website
to learn about Astronomy opportunities and activities  - you may find out
when the next total sun eclipse will be :-) and plan your trip around that
    phenomenon

If you want to explore the Negev Desert and visit Miztpe Rimon a village
located near  a unique natural crater check Karkom Jeep Tours website

For a trip to Petra in Jordan I recommend Desert Eco Tours. I just took
such a day trip with them and it was great.

  Where to Eat in Eilat?

There are lots of Restaurants in Eilat and also some branches of Tel
Avivian good restaurants such as Giraffe, Agadir that are OK.. But the best
place to eat in Eilat is at the Dolphin Reef Restaurant where you can get
wonderful calamari and yummy salads and then lie on the beach or swim to
chill out. A real treat. For night outings I recommend the Monkeys which is
the best music club/bar in Eilat for ages. It also presents live music often so
check it out. Three Monkeys (Hebrew website) you can't miss it right on
    the promenade Tel:  08-6368989

        Where to sleep ?

There are many hotels in Eilat many luxury hotels and some budge suites
hotels also hostels and rooms to rent. - if you arrive to Eilat by bus you will
be met by many locals that offer rooms to let or B&B - it is advisable to go
and check what the place looks like before you commit yourself.
    Accommodations in Eilat
I will recommend 3 hotels where I have been and enjoyed staying.
Royal Park hotel is a suites new hotel – it is not expensive but nice and
comfortable with a kitchenette and a swimming pool – I recommend it if you
    prefer something simple and budget
Royal Garden Hotel   has a very beautiful garden and a magnificent pool.
The suites are provided with a little   and it does not serve breakfast  - no
English site unfortunately but you can see the pictures
The Orchid Hotel is Thailand style hotel a bit out of the town. The hotel is
built on the hill and there is a Tuk Tuk that takes the guests to and from
their rooms. A great view to the sea and a lovely atmosphere. We have
been several times and enjoyed it a lot.
    Accommodations in the Negev Desert
Beerotaim   - A unique place in the Negev to sleep and experience the
    desert.
Spice Route Inn - Another beautiful desert accommodation in the Arava
desert on the way to Eilat, located near Zofar a settlement an hour from
Eilat. We spent there a weekend recently (March 2011) with our friends
and it was a wonderful experience here is my Picassa photo album from
    the event
Ramon Inn is a nice hotel in the interesting and breath taking area of the
Mizpe Ramon Nature Reservation - offers adventurous get aways in the
nature around - also great opportunities for cycling and rock climbing.

SINAI ,Egypt  -  If you want to go farther south from Eilat  to the beautiful
beaches  to the Red Sea in Sinai  you can find nice and cheap
accommodation in the Nuweiba area. I recommend a newly opened little
hotel managed by my swiss friend Alvin called Nuweiba Resort Hotel - I
have not been there but I take his word that it is a wonderful place to be.
