The Galilee: Upper, Lower and Western

    What to do?
I will not tell you about the religious sites in Nazareth (see my Nazareth
photo gallery) and by the Jordan river - you probably can find enough
information on that in all Israel Guides.
The Galilee is Israel's Tuscany and it has lots of picturesque sites and
views.  Here are some highlights you could see when travelling in the
Galilee: the old city of Zefat ,  Rosh Pina, Hamat Gader, Hurshat Tal
and Shmurat Tel Dan, the Golan Heights treks, Rafting on the Jordan
River, Ice-skating In Metulla. See my Galilee photo gallery

    Off the beaten road...
Maalot Tarshiha is a joint Jewish and Arabic municipality that is up on
a hill and has beautiful views and a very colorful Market on Saturdays
mornings. I recommend the Humus Restaurant EL AMIR where you get
the best hummus ever for a very cheap price and the ABU JIMMY
pastry shop where you can have  baklava or other local sweets drink a
coffee and look at the people passing by listening to Arabic music

    Pekiyin
A little village built on the hill with terraces where people live in the
summer. Most of the residents are druz but there is also one Jewish
family :-) and an ancient synagogue. The center of the village is
beautiful with a spring pool and shops and cafés around it. While there
I recommend to have a coffee and something sweet at the Gallery
Cafe of Emil who is a television photographers that returned to his
roots in the village and opened this lovely place. Also there is a nice
spices shop at the entrance of the village opposite to Jamila soaps
where you can find great olive oil and spices.

    Where to sleep?
Portals for finding accommodation, rural, B&B or other: you can try
Weekend , and also   Zimmers  which have both English sites.

Some places I recommend from my personal experience or from my
    friends' experience

Ein Gev - A nice place to stay the night – I have been there 2 years
ago and it is very nice just by the Kineret lake – has also a nice fish
    restaurant –  Ein Gev

Nof Genosar - a wonderful hotel near the Kineret (the Galilee lake) -
it hosts a Music Festival called Jacob Ladder in May and in December.
Lovely breakfast and nice service - beautiful view to the Galilee Lake.

The Scots Hotel in Tiberias - I haven't been there but I heard from
friends it is very nice and unique so I really wish to go there sometime
soon. My daughter and her husband have been there recently
(February 2012) and they said it is heaven on earth in every way....

    Kadarim B&B

Been there last weekend and stayed in a beautiful wooden cottage.
Nice facilities and location near to many of the Galilee attractions and
great views around. I enjoyed my stay a lot. website in Hebrew

Nofesh beananim (recreation in the clouds) If you look for a budget
accommodation in the beautiful area of Meiron Mountain try The Sasa
guest house in Kibutz Sasa. It is a nice B&B with all the necessary
facilities an makes a good base for walking tracks in the beautiful
nature around.  Friendly and cosy and at a very reasonable price.

    Where to eat?
I can recommend a few places from my personal and my friends
    experience:

    Nehalim (means creek)
    Kiryat Shmone Gan Tzafon
    Tel: 04:6904875
A beautiful restaurant located near Kiryat Shmone in a picturesque
spot at the meeting of the waters of 2 creeks. Food is in French style,
sophisticated and quite expensive. Recommended for a romantic meal.

    Hatahana (The mill)
    Metula 1 Harishonim street
    Tel: 04-6944810
This is a grill style restaurant that serves nice food and was
recommended by my friends who live in the area.

    Nahmias Family meals and B&B
    Tel:  0544409401
My special recommendation is to have a meal at the Nahmias family  in
the picturesque village of Amuka.  Now the father Avraham has retired
but the daughter, Ayelet Hashahar, is continuing the good work. They
serve fix menu for a full meal with home made wine. Price is still
reasonable around 200 Shekel per person. You can try to make a
reservation for Friday evenings. Small groups events also possible.
